build masonry curves with ease

McKie's Rotational Bricks™ are a UK-patented, innovative building system to simplify and reduce the cost of constructing structures with complex footprints. Unlike traditional brickwork, which is labour-intensive and technically demanding for curves and irregular layouts, each Rotational Brick can be easily oriented at any angle during construction, while maintaining a plumb wall.

This unlocks creative possibilities for architects, landscapers, and builders.

Design in 3-D

The Rotational Brick™ solves the problem of building curves cost effectively. Our patented design can set any footprint, no matter how complex, on level footings and rapidly assemble a perfect prism of the base shape.

The unique geometry allows secondary walls to be tied into principal walls without breaking brick bond. Walls can literally pass through themselves, like doodling in 3-D!

Walls can be left in their attractive raw state, allowing dappled sunlight, fresh air, and vegetation through the negative space. Alternatively walls can be clad, insulated, and boarded using a complimentary bracket system - when keeping the weather out is part of the brief.

Curves are Beautiful

Throughout human history, construction has been shaped by the techniques and materials available at the time.

We used to live in round houses built from mud and branches. Rectangular buildings evolved from our ability to saw straight timbers and fire rectangular bricks. Modern sheet materials suit the orthodoxy to keep walls straight and flat.

To build curved brick wall is a slow and expensive venture. One cannot use a string-line, so it takes a highly skilled brick-layer using a spirit level to plumb and level every brick individually.

Despite the higher cost, there is still a desire to make our spaces softer, exciting, and inviting. People like curves.

One only needs to look at the groundbreaking projects of many top architectural practices where voluptuous surface textures and flowing organic spaces are increasingly the norm.

Designed around the way in which people interact with them, and showcasing the latest in advanced engineering, these spaces are usually commissioned by those with deep pockets.

The rest of us make do with our boxes.

Until now.

With its unique geometry, ease of use, and lower labour costs than building with traditional brick, the Rotational Brick™ opens up challenging, exciting architecture to the masses.

Our Work

Rotational Bricks™ are gaining traction and appearing in showcases across the UK. Where will you see us next?

Clerkenwell Design Week - London

McKie's Rotational Bricks™ partnered with Blng Studio to build a curved pavilion for the annual outdoor showcase of architectural innovation.

Grand Designs Live - Birmingham

The RIBA Architects' Lounge is a key feature of Grand Designs Live, offering free consultation and advice on everyday projects. Rotational Bricks™ were used to build the structure for this area, inspiring architects and homeowners alike to think outside of the box.

UK Construction Week - London

Our first showing of Rotational Bricks™, and all the different possible uses, from retaining walls to fully cladded and insulated walls.

Neighborhood Projects

Of course we use Rotational Bricks™ to beautify our own neighborhood, bringing organic flow and whimsy to residential gardens.

About us

Mark McKie's inspiration for the Rotational Brick™ came during COVID-19 Lockdown, as he spent the time playing games with his daughters and designing new toys to keep them entertained. Before long, one of these homemade toys roused the idea of a flexible, interlocking brick that could be easily placed and moved to make organic shapes.

Mark taught himself to weld and made an iteration of handmade presses to achieve the ideal shape, that would allow freedom in placement and stability in structure. He pursued the design process in his off hours, collecting waste material from his neighborhood to make the first bricks for the proof of concept.

His first order for 3,000 bricks was produced entirely in his back garden! Mark was asked to build the Architects' Lounge for Grand Designs Live in late 2025. The installation was a huge success with overwhelming demand.

Mark is now setting up his commercial brick-making plant in Southampton, UK and is accepting orders from Summer 2026.
